Common App Essay Topics - Essay Topic Ideas For College Admission
Common App Essay Topics - Essay Topic Ideas For College AdmissionThe Common App is an American college admissions test that is similar to the SATs for high school students. It helps students from various fields to have a better chance of getting into colleges and universities of their choice. It is a great way to help students with certain academic difficulties such as attention deficit disorder, autism, and dyslexia.Students who take the Common App have an opportunity to share their opinions on some of the most popular topics for college admissions essays. These are topics that will be covered on the application forms in the year 2020. However, there are still some topics that will not be covered by the high school students as they usually will not write anything more than five hundred words. One of the common App essay topics is the concept of peer pressure. Students who have been in the same room with a person with ADHD will usually write about what kind of treatment and school sup port he or she has received after first meeting him or her. Sometimes it will be difficult for students to write about this topic because they cannot imagine what could happen to them if they were to speak up. They might even be afraid that their classmates might find out their problem and make fun of them.Another one of the Common App essay topics is the importance of family. Since the Common App is just a college admission test, parents should avoid writing about their own families. This is because some college admission teams have already seen the essays written by students who have the 'same' parents. The purpose of the testing is to determine whether the applicant can be accepted to the college, so it is important to answer questions in a careful manner.Another common App essay topics are the topics that address the psychological and emotional factors that can affect the decision of the student in attending college. One of the areas that the college admission team will look at when reviewing the application form is how well the student can handle stress. Another thing that is looked at is how students can handle losing a friend or family member in the process of finding a college.Other common App essay topics include the issues related to how the family will be financially supported by the student and the support that the student will need to deal with different professors. There are also topics that are connected to the acceptance of the students. A common topic is when the student needs to talk about how he or she had to face a traumatic event such as being a victim of sexual abuse. Then there are also topics that are connected to the student's ability to deal with rejection and the kind of personality that is most suitable for the college.Students who want to write their own Common App essay topics can contact the company that is providing the essay service for the Common App. It is possible that they can also assist the students with getting the infor mation that they need to write the essay. These essays are not hard to write because they are based on commonly used topics. Usually the Common App will provide the students with a sample essay, which is then edited by the students themselves. When writing an App essay, students should know that the results of the Common App are not just based on grades. The application will also ask them to describe themselves and their experiences.

Racism, Racism And The Civil Rights Movement - 1009 Words
Racism is Evident in American Society Today The history of the United States in regard to racism and discrimination is no secret. Children are taught about segregation, slavery, and the Civil Rights Movement like the events were purely in the past. In part the events were in the past; however, the results of said events are not. As Americans, we live in a nation with a rough history and, in order to keep growing together, we cannot forget what has happened. Granted, racism is not extinct, but it is most definitely not the norm it was 50 years ago. According to Derrick Bellââ¬â¢s book, Faces at the Bottom of the Well, Bell uses fiction stories to show that racism still exist but has a different form. In American society, racism is still evident today in racial symbols, covert racism and affirmative action. The racial symbols are used in various ways, including holidays, representing people and movements. People assume that by having an Independence Day, every person has the right to be free while some people are still afraid when it comes to freedom. ââ¬Å"The fact is, though, that most whites and lots of black folks rely on symbols to support their belief that black person has come a long way since slavery and segregation to the present time.â⬠Black History month will be a great example, back then people were happy that those kinds of holidaysShow MoreRelatedRacism And The Civil Rights Movement984 Words à |à 4 PagesWhat is racism? Mining in Australia for Chinese Economy - MyAssignmenthelp.com
Question: Discus about theMining in Australia for Chinese Economy. Answer: The mining industry is one of the most economically reliable sectors in the Australian industry. It significance is spread all through the economy and so any variation both domestically and the in the international market is likely to attract greater concern particularly in the macroeconomic aspects. In light of this, iron ore as a chief component of the mining sector has undergone a tumultuous time in relation to the fluctuation that resulted into a 5 year low decline which then created economic tensions as reflected in the employment, current account balance, exchange rate and output. However, there were fiscal and monetary policies being employed by the Australian government in response to this occurrence. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the extent at which these policies worked. Recommendations are also given while looking at the likely drawbacks of the policies in question as well. The international mineral prices with regard to Australia have for a long time been determined by China which is the worlds largest producer and consumer of Steel. A slowing growth in the Chinese demand exacerbated the unlikely situation in the world market. Despite the general expectation that the mineral prices in the international market were bound to fall considerably, the resulting occurrence was more than anticipated which was ignited by the reduction in the growth of the Chinese economy in general (Poon et al 2016). A larger than expected increases in the lower-cost supply meant that the Australian economy had to bear the brunt of this happening. However, the increase and rapid expansion of the production and investment in Australia in general created a more compelling case for the significance of the iron ore prices in the Australian economy. As a result, a fall in the international demand chiefly brought by the plummeting demand by China created a hostile environment for the Australias terms of trade. In other words, there was a huge decline in the terms of trade (George 2016). Lesser demand for the products in the international market translates to lower value of the exports. In response to this, the government sought to bring back the economy on track by depreciating the Australian dollar. This move is vital in offsetting the domestic loses. The Australian mining industry is predominantly foreign owned and so a sharp decline in prices of iron ore necessitated a sizeable portion of the profits being flowed to parent countries during this period. As a result, domestic net investments reduced sharply in response to this occurrence. Furthermore, it weighed in on the real GDP and realized through a downward pressure on the national income (Mudd 2007). The effect has consistently revealed through a reduction in the consumption levels. When the profits from mining are not ploughed back into the economy in terms of investments, it deprives the economic growth. A contraction in the net spending on the available goods and services is further enhanced by a lack of initiatives to create other avenue that the citizens can earn income. In this case, two macroeconomic aspects are in play here; unemployment/employment and Real GDP/output. In response to this foreign deprivation, the Australian government adopted a policy that stressed a n investment spending to a tune of $100million (Department of Mining Industry 2017). This was meant to reduce the investment gap that a drop in the international mining prices had on the Australian sector. Furthermore, a shrinking investment base catapulted unemployment as more people working in the mining and other related industries lost their jobs because there was a sudden reduction in the output in a bid to mitigate the ballooning costs. In the same bracket, shrinking investments tends to exacerbate inflation rates because there is more money in the economy for consumers to spend. As a monetary policy, the government sought to cap the interest rates at under 2% according to Yoemans (2016) in order to combat the increasing money supply owing to a reduction in the investments. In the diagram, increasing the interest rates will effectively lower the aggregate demand as consumer disposable income reduces as indicated by a shift from AD1 to AD2. The policies adopted by the Australian government are practically working as indicated by the following aspects. First, through increasing investment in the mining sector, the economy has witnessed a slight rise in the Real GDP. This has then implied that the unemployment rate has slowed down as other sectors of the economy are opened hence creation of jobs. Secondly, a boom in the property market in Australia particularly the cities of Melbourne and Sidney is a case for further investments which is likely to ensure more stability is realized as well (Costello Knights 2013). While the economy marginally looks to recover from the ashes of a decline in the mining sector particularly a slump in the prices of iron ore, it is important that the following recommendations are factored in. first, diversification of the economy is explored extensively. Australia is inherently dependent on mining and a slight crash could have wanton implications on the economy in general. Agriculture, tourism and manufacturing provides other alternatives because mining alone contributing 44% of the GDP is disastrous for any negative eventuality. Secondly, there is need to have more budgetary allocation to further investments in other sectors as well as mining itself to curb this problem (Philips, 2016). In summary, the manner in which the international market is set up means that commodities are prone to market fluctuations and so does mining and specifically iron ore. The reduction in demand for iron ore and other mining products by China contributed greatly to the events that shook the Australian economy. A dismal performance in the Australian dollar worsened the situation. However, a glimmer of hope lie in the government responses in averting the problems. Capping the interest rates was vital in keeping the inflation rates low while at the same further investment cut down on the negative balance of trade and the deficits which eventually prompted an increase in the employment levels. Nonetheless, there is need to have more investment and budgetary allocation to have the problem controlled properly. References Mudd, G. M. 2007. Equality of Opportunity and Condition Concepts
Explain the concepts of equality of opportunity and equality of condition The concept of equality of opportunity is founded on the political ideal that goes against class hierarchy. However, the ideal does not oppose the hierarchy but rather the social positioning of individuals in either inferior or superior levels. Under this principle, the placement of individuals in certain societal levels is opened up for all interested individuals and competition is developed with the involved parties being given equal opportunities to be at superior levels.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Equality of Opportunity and Condition Concepts specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The equality of condition is an ideal that attempts to encourage individuals to have equally distributed wealth, power and status. While there are many issues that have contributed to social inequalities, the concept of equality of condition seeks to establish a strategy of addressing and reducing inequality of class, status and power through diversification of opportunities (Naiman 307). Through proper equality policies, itââ¬â¢s easier to achieve some goals of justice and fairness. Do you think our current society allows for a good deal of social mobility? Why or why not? The current society allows for social mobility. The earlier societal structure was based upon social stratification at which occupational and geographical barriers made it hard for individuals to be in equal environments. One of the most significant changes has been horizontal mobility that has individuals changing positions but not social classes. This occurs mostly in professions where movement is from positions to other positions of the same rank. The occupational revolution that allows individuals from different social classes taking different positions has been influenced by the increase in educational opportunities. Access to education and attaining the requi red level of education to grant better employment posts has enhanced the opportunities of social mobility (Naiman 315). Since education has been one of the greatest influences of class change, it has influenced the rate of class change in the society. Society has embraced the educational influence and attained the relevant qualifications to grant higher pays. This change in the occupational structure has enabled society to decrease the class differences and witness both horizontal and vertical mobility. International migration is another factor that has influenced the rise in social mobility. The simplification of migration processes has enabled individuals from lower social levels to change upon residing in more developed areas. The number of Africans and Asians for example who has become wealthy after relocating to the western states is one of the indications of social mobility success. External welfare services and globalization have affected the societal changes and allowed for more people to acquire higher social status. How have colonialism and imperialism contributed to global poverty? According to the dependency theory, colonization and imperialism are to blame for the global poverty and especially in the developing nations. Wealthy nations took control and exploited the resources of the colonized nations.Advertising Looking for essay on social sciences? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More This led to misuse of domestic resources and the colonized nations were not given an opportunity to manage and use the available resources for development purposes. In addition to taking the resources, wealthy nations also took manpower in form of slaves and this weakened the social and economic structures of the colonized nations. Colonization and imperialism therefore denied the poor nations an opportunity to utilize their resources and with the embezzled assets and resources, colonized nations were left with lot s of debts. Through colonization, resources were exploited to the benefit of the wealthy nations. In addition, the economic and political structures in the colonized nations were shattered and while some managed to recover, others are still struggling with the effects. The destabilization of the social, economic, and political systems of poor nations has influenced the poverty levels in the world, since there are many nations still struggling to stabilize. Slavery and serfdom origins essays
Slavery and serfdom origins essays Geographic factors were not the only important component in the establishment of slavery in American Colonies and Serfdom in Russia. Forced labour in both countries was a result of the shortage of labour in their societies, yet was more significant to the development of Slavery. Also Economic factors contributed to the formation of the systems in each country. Slaves in America provided substantial income to their masters whilst Serfs were forced into the system due to their lingering debts. Matters of race and religion also influenced the establishment of Slavery in American Colonies; on the other hand this component was not particularly associated with the creation of Serfdom in Russia. Slaves were of African descent as they were easily recognisable within the colonies as opposed to the Serfs in Russia, due to a peasants position in society. Geographic factors certainly influenced the creation of forced labour in both societies, however other various aspects were considered addit ionally vital in the establishment of Slavery and Serfdom in both countries. Geographic factors were not the primary reason for the development of Slavery in America. Climate impacted the Western settlers, as they were accustomed to the colder weather, while in America humidity was mainly prevalent. Due to this factor Africans were forced into Slavery, as they tended to cope better with climatic conditions in America, with the exception of those brought in from the Caribbean, as they were unfamiliarised with these conditions. An additional geographic factor saw Africans being enslaved in countries near to the America colonies, thus ensuring the ease of their transportation. Vicinity also played a role in the formation of forced labour in American colonies, as Southern states of America required a greater amount of labour due to the maintenance of agricultural land and the farming of cotton, tobacco and other crops. The climatic conditions in...

Characteristics of German People vs Characteristics of Indian People Essay
Characteristics of German People vs Characteristics of Indian People - Essay Example On the other hand, Indian people donââ¬â¢t look like the English people at all, though a vast majority of the Indian people learns English as their second language. German is the standard language for business in Germany where English is the standard language for business in India, despite the fact that Indian people have their own language i.e. Hindi. German people are quite precise in their speech unlike the Indian people, whose speech is full of words that have secondary significance. German people are too particular about the deadlines. If a German boss says to the employee that he needs a project done by 5:00 pm, it means that the project may not be accepted if submitted after 5:00 pm. On the other hand, if an Indian boss tells his employee to submit a project by 5:00 pm, he would accept it even if it is delivered at 5:00 pm the following day. Indians are too careless about meeting theà deadlines.

Applying Stanislavskiââ¬â¢s Principles to a Role in Volpone Essay -- Konst
Applying Stanislavskiââ¬â¢s Principles to a Role in Volpone As founder of the first acting system, co-founder of the Moscow Art Theatre, and an eminent practitioner of the naturalist school of thought, Konstantin Stanislavski challenged traditional notions of the dramatic process, establishing himself as one of the most pioneering thinkers of his time in modern theatre. His process of character development, the Stanislavski Method, was the catalyst for method acting- one of the most influential acting systems on the modern stage and screen. Such renowned schools of acting and directing as the Group Theatre and The Actors Studio are a legacy of Stanislavski's pioneering vision. Stanislavski developed this unique system of training to change the way that people saw their characters. The actors would research the situation created by the script, break down the text according to their character's motivations and recall their own experiences, therefore causing actions and reactions according to these motivations. The actor would ideally make his motivations for acting identical to those of the character in the script. He could then replay these emotions and experiences in the role of the character in order to achieve a more genuine performance. This was Stanislavskiââ¬â¢s main aim to create a more genuine performance. ACTION ââ¬Å"In every physical action, unless it is purely mechanical, there is concealed some inner action, some feelings. This is how the two levels of life in a part (dramatic role) are created, the inner and the outer. They are intertwined. A common purpose brings them together and reinforces the unbreakable bond.â⬠- ââ¬ËCreating a roleââ¬â¢ In Volpone, it would be most likely to happen in the market place. The busy market place would be played by a group of people that would need to show a complicity of lives that intermingle with other characters just as if they were a real community. This would be hard to show, as they are not a real community. Good methods of getting these groups of characters to resemble villagers would be to give them little scenarios to act out in which all the characters intermingle and have lines to say to each other. This would help them realise each otherââ¬â¢s inner character and feeling and therefore are then able to react in the way their character would to that situation. Then use what they ... ...must find out all he can about the character and the situation. This helps to create an overall realistic reaction to that particular situation. To be able to use ââ¬ËMagic ifââ¬â¢ the actor must know a lot about his character and his or her personality. Stanislavski teaches the actor to become the character by asking questions that are answered by action based on emotional response. For example, the actor that plays Volpone in the rape scene must ask before he plays the scene, ââ¬ËWhat if I am Volpone and I am just about to rape Celia and Benario jumps out from the cupboard? What will I do?ââ¬â¢ Another good question from Celiaââ¬â¢s point of view: "What if I'm Celia and I am being raped by an old dirty man and I have no one to help me would I give in or stand my ground? "Magic if" questions contain motivation and awareness of "the now." The questions are cast in the first person, in the present tense, and therefore they pull you into the character's major concerns. Very importantly, the questions suggest not one but two attitudes: The character toward her or him, and toward other characters. These types of questions help the actor figure out the action to take in response.

Emirates Airline in Dubai Essay
With the competition in the aviation industry threatening to hit fever pitch, Emirates is doing everything at its disposal to remain relevant in the sector which continues to grow tremendously. The massive growth in the aviation industry which has been largely attributed to globalization and industrialization calls for major players such as Emirates airlines to put extra efforts as far as service delivery is concerned in a bid to remain at the top. And since growth comes with its fair share of competition, to keep up with it a company must offer not only best but also unique services and be ready to commit enough resources towards customer satisfaction. It is in this spirit that Emirates through its innovative and creative strategy has remained a pace setter in the aviation industry. Pioneer In order to address the communication needs of its passengers, Emirates became the pioneer airline to launch a service of its kind which allows passengers to use their cell phones. The service which was first rolled out on 20 March 2008 on a charter plane between Dubai and Casablanca was received well by a good number of stakeholders in the industry. With this new system, passengers will now be in a position to call or send text messages to people who are on the ground. Already experts say that other airlines have gone back to the drawing board with a keen interest of embracing this new technology so as to attract more customers. Food for the soul Emirates offers what one can call a one-stop in-flight entertainment system with a wide range of options such as live international television channels, music and movies which are largely attributed to its large client base. Apart from in-flight internet services available to all classes of passengers, they are also provided with newspapers, magazines and other periodicals to inform and educate them while traveling. Generally it provides all what clientsââ¬â¢ needs including food to music which some prefer calling food for the soul. This kind of investment in the entertainment makes customers to enjoy their journey and even consider using the same service in future hence making the Dubai based company preferred by many clients. Customer service Client satisfaction which gives Emirates competitive advantage can be attributed to its professional, young, dynamic, diligent, and dedicated cabin crew drawn from various countries. The multilingual staff uses its diverse cultural backgrounds coupled with the facilities available to serve passengers with the humility they deserve. Fully cognizant of the fact that good performance in business can only be achieved through customer satisfaction; the company has utilized this unique capability to offer best services so as to achieve the desire of their clients. This lean and well coordinated work force has seen . the airline maintain high standard of service delivery and achieve enviable goals. Although experts argue that this is a strategy aimed at cutting on costs, research shows that lean staff coupled with a simple organizational structure like the one adopted by the company leads to success. State-ofââ¬âthe-art The state-of-the-art fleet of planes which Emirates boasts of has enabled it to be consistent and reliable more than any other top airline. These latest planes comes in handy because it means they will be at the right place at the right time hence fits the bill of the demands of customers. Irrespective of the class of the plane, once you fly with the company comfort is guaranteed. Responsibility In this era where corporate organizations are giving back to the community in the spirit of social corporate responsibility, Emirates is not left behind. It sponsors major events across the world ranging from sports to trade. For instance it sponsors the English Premier League side Arsenal, Dubai Shopping Festival, West Australian Symphony Orchestra among others. Such gestures although can be easily dismissed by critics as public relations gimmicks, demonstrates that the company has the interests of the international community at heart bearing in mind that is where it draws its customer base from. The creativity and friendliness in which Emirates has handled its sponsored activities has really ripped off if the profits it continues to register is something to go by. Strategic position It is important to note that the strategic position of Dubai, home base of Emirates gives it an edge to do business. Strategic because one can conveniently fly to Dubai before connecting with ease to other cities like Manchester or Rome while avoiding an extra trip hence saving on costs. Apart from being a commercial hub, Dubai is a major tourism attraction a factor which makes the aviation industry to blossom. Those who fly with Emirates airlines attest that their ambitions are met a clear manifestation that that its objective of offering best services on every route it operates is fully achieved. Its value for clients has won accolades and trust from many quarters making it an airline you can bank on.

Genealogy of Legendary Singer James Brown
The man often referred to as the Godfather of Soul was born James Joseph Brown in a small shack in rural Barnwell County, South Carolina. His father, Joe Gardner Brown, was of mixed African-American and Native American descent, and his mother, Susie Behling, was of mixed African-American and Asian descent. This family tree is presented with anà ahnentafelà numbering system. Check these tips for reading this family tree. First Generation 1. James Joseph Brown was born on May 3, 1933, outside of Barnwell, in Barnwell County, South Carolina, to Joseph Gardner Brown and Susie Behling. When he was four his mother left him in the care of his father. Two years later his father took him to Augusta, Georgia, where he lived with his paternal great-aunt Hansom (Scott) Washington. His aunt Minnie Walker also helped with his upbringing. James Brown married four times. He wed his first wife, Velma Warren, on June 19, 1953, in Toccoa, in Augusta County, Georgia, and had three children with her: Terry, Teddy (1954ââ¬âJune 14, 1973), and Larry. That marriage ended in divorce in 1969. James Brown next married Deidre Jenkins, with whom he had children Deanna Crisp, Yamma Noyola, Venisha, and Daryl. According to his autobiography, they were married on the front porch of a probate judge in Barnwell on October 22, 1970, and divorced on January 10, 1981. In 1984, James Brown married Adrienne Lois Rodriguez. They separated in April 1994 and had no children. The marriage ended when Adrienne died on January 6, 1996, in California from complications following plastic surgery. In December 2001, James Brown married his fourth wife, Tomi Rae Hynie, at his home on Beech Island, South Carolina. Their son, James Joseph Brown II, was born on June 11, 2001, although James Brown questioned his paternity. Second Generation (Parents) 2. Joseph Gardner Brown, known affectionately as Pops, was born on March 29, 1911, in Barnwell County, South Carolina, and died July 10, 1993, in Augusta, Georgia. According to family history, his father was a married man and his mother worked as a housekeeper in the home. The story says he was born Joe Gardner and took the name Brown from the woman who raised him after his mother left him, Mattie Brown. 3. Susie Behlingà was born Aug. 8, 1916, in Colleton County, South Carolina and died Feb. 26, 2004, in Augusta, Georgia. Joe Brown and Susie Behling were married, and their only child was James Brown: 1 i. James Joseph Brown Third Generation (Grandparents): 4.ââ¬â5. The parents of Joseph Gardner Brown are uncertain, but his siblings (or half-siblings) were the children of Edward (Eddie) Evans and wife, Lilla (surname possibly Williams). Edward and Lilla Evans appear in the 1900 U.S. Census in Barnwell County, South Carolina, and in the 1910 U.S. Census in Buford Bridge, Bamberg County, South Carolina. By 1920 it appears that Edward and Lilla Evans had died, and their children are listed as the children of their aunt and uncle, Melvin and Josephine Scott in Richland, in Barnwell County, South Carolina. This means that either Edward Evans or Lilla Williams is a parent of Joe Brown. 6. Monnie Behling was born about March 1889 in South Carolina and died between 1924 and 1930, probably in South Carolina. His parents were Stephen Behling, born about May 1857, and Sarah, born about December 1862, both in South Carolina. 7. Rebecca Bryantà was born about 1892 in South Carolina. Improving the Guidelines for Combination Therapy for Type...
I have chosen the above topic because the guidelines are very vague in recommending this combination therapy even though we have clear cut guidelines recommending the use of individual agents in the treatment in Type II Diabetes patients. American diabetes association (1) guidelines recommend advising lifestyle modifications like healthy eating, increased physical activity and weight control, and if the patient fails to meet the target HbA1C levels on lifestyle changes, Metformin is added and over a period of three months, if the patient does not reach the target A1C levels, patient can be started on two drug combinations and we have several options to do this, from sulfonylureas, TZDs ,GLP-1 Analogues, DPP-4 inhibitors and insulin. A search of literature for this combination (2) shows that there are very few clinical studies conducted with the combination of GLP 1 analogues and Insulin and in these studies it was more common to find short-acting GLP-1 RA (exenatide twice daily , liraglutide once daily, lixesanatide once daily) treatment added to an existing insulin regimen (with or without concomitant OAMs) rather than insulin added to existing GLP-1 RA therapy. I will limit the discussion here to only combination treatment of T2D with GLP-1 RA and basal insulin and would like to discuss the above topic under two headings- 1. Stem Cell Research For Better or for Worse Essay examples
For as long as humans exist, optimal health continues to remain vital for a productive life. As new medical discoveries increase through generations, humans become healthier, therefore, their life expectancy rises. Stem cell research, a relatively new field, investigates to improve and lengthen human life. The possibility of stem cells to develop prospering health makes them beneficial to the human race. Why do stem cell debates create such a large uproar? Stem cells posses the potential to arise into hundreds of different cells in the body- for this reason stem cells are also referred to as undifferentiated cells. Stem cellsââ¬â¢ value also comes from their ability to ââ¬Å"replicate many times, or proliferateâ⬠(ââ¬Å"Stem Cell Basicsâ⬠1).â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Although embryonic stem cells contain abilities to enrich human health, a less controversial source of stem cells remains- adult stem cells. Collecting adult stem cells takes place in numerous lo cations of the body such as: bone marrow, muscle, the brain, umbilical cords, and adipose tissue (Guinan 308). Goldstein documents of experimental findings how human brain stem cells ââ¬Å"can achieve ninety to ninety-five perfect purity in combination with several previous stepsâ⬠(207). However, scientists remained uncertain about the functionality of adult stem cells because they ââ¬Å"typically generate the cell types of the tissues in which they resideâ⬠(ââ¬Å"Stem Cell Basicsâ⬠1), but in 2006 a Kyoto University team discovered the ability to engineer adult stem cells into pluripotent stem cells (ââ¬Å"New Methodâ⬠4). Hate Crimes Essay Example For Students
Hate Crimes Essay Hate Crimes Essay and The Mitchell v. Wisconsin Decision The American Heritage Dictionary defines hate as intense dislike or animosity. However, defining hate as the basis for a crime is not as easy without possibly jeopardizing constitutional rights in the process. Hate crime laws generally add enhanced punishments to existing statues. A hate crime law seeks to treat a crime, if it can be demonstrated that the offense was a hate crime differently from the way it would be treated under ordinary criminal law. Since the 1980s, the problem of hate crimes has attracted increasing research attention, especially from criminologists and law enforcement personnel who have focused primarily on documenting the prevalence of the problem and formulation criminal justice responses to it. Lawmakers have passed legislation to encourage data collection and attach enhanced penalties to hate crimes at both state and federal levels. When Americans are assaulted merely because of their real or perceived sexual orientation, gender, or disability, the law should be as tough on their assailants as it currently is tough on criminals who attack based on racial, religious, or ethnic bias. Yet only in rare circumstances can the federal government investigate and prosecute hate violence against gays, lesbians, or bisexuals. Attempts have been made to reach a definition of hate crime, including that it is a crime, most commonly violence, motivated by prejudice, bias or hatred towards a particular group of which the victim is rarely significant to the offender and is most commonly a stranger to him or her. The current law (18 U. Does hate crime imply on any case when a person is convicted for inflicting damage on someone different? It is often difficult to set a benchmark for measuring sufficiency of hate as a cause to label it in front of crime. The term can be conveniently stretched and squeezed by people with different ideas and biases. The four white policemen who brutally beat Rodney King Jr., a black man, half to death for merely speeding is determined by the courts judgment, as officers performing their duty. Hate, to those particular jurors and judge, was not a valid concern. To them, the beating was not due to the officers resentment for a black man, but because they were simply disciplining an offender of the law. To the minority groups, the courts ruling was outrageous. From their point of view, the savage beating was unnecessary and hate was obviously the factor which induce the four cops to perform such a nasty feat. Because people have varying views and opinions, application of the term hate crime is not always relevant. Can we assume the murder of Nicole Simpson by OJ Simpson a hate crime since it involves a black man killing a white woman or are there more in depth twist to the case? People who are willing to do a little thinking, do not just look at the difference of the victim and the convicted and draw conclusions of whether or not the crime is hate related, they examine all the other psychological elements also. The most common way of judgment is to ponder: if the victim was of a different race, religion, or sexual orientation, would the same injurious action still have taken place? In order to picture the virtual scenario, we would need to think critically and be able to delineate out hate, and to do that, we need to understand why people hate. No one is born to be prejudice. It is the society people grow up in that teaches them to be that way. Even while watching a seemingly harmless cartoon, we are taught unconsciously to despise those who are different. The good guys are always a group of the same kind, physically appealing and very American while the bad guys are always bizarre and resemble people from a distant culture we dont recognize. From very young, we develop stereotypes; a direct effect from the workings of society. Popular generalizations such as Black people eating up social security money and Asians trying to buy America are passed around. Yet, in reality, statistics show that much more Whites are on social security than are blacks and only the Japanese Corporations are doing the purchasing, not Asians, particularly Asian Americans who have nothing to do with them besides being Asian. Ironically, society tries to undo our prejudice through education when we enter school. But the prejudice is brought back to us when we meet students who are prejudice, whether we become their friends or their victims of discrimination. Being prejudice upon teaches a person to be prejudice. How a person views something related to racism and hatred, directly reflects on how society has raised them. The American people do not see the bombing of Iraq and Yugoslavia as a hate crime, because we are told what we want to believe, that we are good and they are evil, and there would be no wrong in flexing our superior muscle. But to the Iraqis and Yugoslavians, who lost thousands of lives, the United States is but a racist nation who kills non-American people like killing ants. For if the Iraqis and Yugoslavians were Americans, preferably white, would the U.S value their lives differently? It is ultimately in a persons perception, which concludes what is and .

Summarise the Roles and Responsibilities of National and Local Goverment for Education Policy and Practice free essay sample
Their aim is to improve the opportunities and experiences for all children and the professionals working with them by focusing on giving more support for the poorest and most vulnerable children in England, to ensure they all receive the same level of education and equal opportunities as their peers regardless of background. As well as policy setting they are looking at new ways of developing the quality of services for children under the five outcomes of Every Child Matters. They have also set up and administer school league tables, which do not show how much progress has been made, just high achievement and not all pupils are going to be academic achievers and this will not recommend a school to prospective parents. It should not just publicise results from A* to C at GCSE, but show how much progress has been made by the students. Not all students are going to be academic and would prefer to study vocational courses and this should be taken into account. We will write a custom essay sample on Summarise the Roles and Responsibilities of National and Local Goverment for Education Policy and Practice or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Central government is responsible for the school/education budget; they determine which local authorities should receive it and what amount. The Department of Education is responsible for: * Setting the national curriculum * Early years foundation stage, which the schools and nurseries (including private nurseries * Funding research into projects for education * Workforce reform/promoting integrated working * Developing the roles of voluntary and community organisations, charities and other sectors that work with children Recent governments have realised how important the care and education of young children is and what impact it can have on them. The four nations from the UK have taken slightly different approaches to how early years education will be delivered. We are at present in the early stages of working within their frameworks. In September 2008 the government (English) introduced a new statutory curriculum for children from 0 ââ¬â 5 years who are being cared for or educated away from their homes. The framework applies to; childminders, after-school clubs, nurseries, pre-schools and schools, irrespective of how they are funded. In addition to the education programme the EYFS also includes welfare requirements. This was designed to ensure that all children regardless of background or circumstances would have access to a quality early years education. There is a series of outcomes for each area of learning so that teachers can measure this and have a clear focus for their work. These outcomes are called the Early Learning Goals. The aim is for the child to meet them by the end of their reception year. These goals are important as they form the building blocks for the childrenââ¬â¢s later education. Childrenââ¬â¢s Centres provide a range of early years services from the expectant parent to children aged 0-4 years. These are sometimes described as aââ¬â¢ one stop shopââ¬â¢. This will include childcare, health, parenting and family support services. In the most deprived areas there may be a requirement to ensure the delivery of day-care, where this is unavailable. Many Childrenââ¬â¢s Centres are located on school premises. Whilst primarily designed to provide services for pre-school children the buildings can also support schools to deliver ââ¬ËExtended servicesââ¬â¢. Many Childrenââ¬â¢s Centres work in partnership with their local Education Improvement Partnership, to ensure joined up approaches to support families to meet their childrenââ¬â¢s needs in a ââ¬Ëlearning communityââ¬â¢. Childrenââ¬â¢s Centres are managed as part of the Childrenââ¬â¢s and Young Peoples Services. Those who manage Centres come from a wide range of backgrounds, including Social Work, Nursing and Teaching and share their particular expertise within the local network of Centres. The centres can offer parenting education and family support services. There may be a day nursery on site which will be registered with OFSTED. Parents should always ask to see the current OFSTED report, or download it from the website. Supporting families in the foundation years, was published by the government in 2011 setting out the governmentââ¬â¢s intention for more families to benefit from parenting advice and support from pregnancy to the age of five. The parenting class trial was announced in October 2011, by Sarah Teather, Minister for Children and Families. These trial parenting class areas are Camden, Middlesbrough and High Peak in Derbyshire. Parents in these areas can download a voucher for ? 100. These vouchers will provide support with: * Learning through play Parents working together as a team * Communicating and staying calm * Managing sleep issues * Coping with difficult behaviour * Rules and routines * Understanding different stages of your childââ¬â¢s development Vouchers can either be downloaded from the canparent website to a computer or mobile phone, or paper vouchers are being distributed by childrenââ¬â¢s workforce professionals in the trial areas and vouchers can also be collected from Boots stores in the trial areas. Local Authorities will provide both Registered and Voluntary Registered childcare provision. Any childcare provider must be registered with OFSTED, if they look after children under 8 years for more than two hours a day, for payment. Registered chilminders are inspected against five welfare requirements: * Safeguarding and promoting childrenââ¬â¢s welfare * Suitable persons * Suitable premises * Organisation * Documentation Inspections of new childcare settings are usually carried out just after registration and then once every three years. The Voluntary Childcare Register is a section of the register that offers the choice to register for those who would not normally do so. They are mainly looking after children aged 8 or over in their own home. By joining this part of the register they are showing parents that they are willing to meet certain requirements relating to people. Premises and provision designed to keep children safe. Parent/Toddler groups are exempt from registration by OFSTED, as parents/carers stay with their children. The second department for education is the Department for Business Innovation and Skills, they are responsible for further and higher education and are aiming to establish a world class education system in the UK, so that we have the highest skills needed for conomic success in a modern world. From September 2013 the school leaving age will rise to 17 and from 2015 it will rise to 18 years. The government have raised the leaving age due to research which shows that young people who carry on learning or training are likely to be healthier and less likely to get into trouble with the police. Students can stay at school, go to college, become an apprentice or join a part time training course. They can earn money and learn new skills at the same time. The main qualifications are: * Diplomas Vocational courses for those who know what career they would like to follow * A levels Academic Subjects * International Baccalaureate offering a wider range of subjects than A level * Functional skills This qualification can form part of the Diploma, usually in Maths, English and IT * Foundation learning has been developed for low achieving 14-19 year olds to help raise participation, attainment and progress From now the learning is more about what the child wants to do and less about what parents want them to do. Parents can help with the decision making process by talking through the childââ¬â¢s choices and offering to support them whatever their choice. New teacherââ¬â¢s standards were introduced by the Department for Education in September 2012. They set a clear baseline of expectations for the practice and conduct of teachers once they are qualified. The teacherââ¬â¢s standards are used to assess all trainees working towards QTS and all those on their induction period. They are also used when assessing the performance of all teachers subject to the Education (school teachersââ¬â¢ appraisal) (England) Regulations 2012. Local Government are responsible for providing advice and support to the schools in their local area. They are responsible for providing staff training and development, special educational needs, the curriculum community cohesion, school management issues, behaviour management and the development of school policies. Local Government will administer committees that deal with education and are responsible for investigations that the authority carries out on employees or potential employees of the authority or governing body of schools. They advise schools on the conditions of service for non-teaching staff and on their grading. They will also provide specifically trained teachers to support pupils who have special needs or need to be assessed for a particular learning need. These services are sometimes free of charge, but schools are usually expected to pay for them. They pass on any changes in policy and offer staff training through their local education development centre and in some cases whole school training. It is the responsibility of the schools to make sure they are up to date with all the current policies which are put in place for children, young people and their families. One of these is the Every Child Matters framework, which is one of the largest provisions that has been put in place for developing their roles in the community. They should have policies in place that meet the expected national requirements and also follow the LEA guidelines. OFSTED have two types of inspection of local authority childrenââ¬â¢s services: * Inspection of local authority arrangements for the protection of children: These unannounced inspections look at how effective the local child protection service is; and how well the local authority leads its associates in helping and protecting children. The inspection takes eight days. They carry out activities, such as looking at case files, talking to children, young people, parents and carers. They will inform the relevant senior manager if they find any unresolved issues of significant risk or harm to a child or young person. The lead inspector will write the report, which includes grades and it is then published on the website within 22 days, together with a version for children and young people. * Ofsted will inspect a further education college with residential care for young people under 18, such as Hereward College, Coventry. They offer residential placements and the required support for those with disabilities. * Secure Training Centres for young people aged 10-17 years who are on remand or serving a Detention and Training Order, or are subject to a secure order under section 25 of the Children Act 1989. * Residential special school for students with special educational needs * Cafcass provides advice to the family courts and provides support and advice for children and families involved in family court proceedings * Boarding school where children study and live during term time. Independent boarding school charge fees for tuition, board and lodging. Maintained schools only charge for board and lodging Clear lines of responsibility are in existence to ensure children are protected: * Department of Education ââ¬â overall responsibility for safeguarding and child protection in England * Issue statutory and non-statutory guidance to local authorities * Local authorities ââ¬â use guidance to produce procedures for services and practitioners * Services use as basis for their policies and procedures All the guidelines are intended to make sure that all services and agencies working with children and young people work together to improve safeguarding.

Youth Subcultures free essay sample
In sociology, anthropology and cultural studies, a subculture is a group of people with a culture (whether distinct or hidden) which differentiates them from the larger culture to which they belong. Six key ways in which subcultures can be identified: 1. Through their often negative relations to work (as idle, parasitic, at play or at leisure, etc. ); 2. through their negative or ambivalent relation to class (since subcultures are not class-conscious and dont conform to traditional class definitions); 3. through their association with territory (the street, the hood, the club, etc. , rather than property; 4. through their movement out of the home and into non-domestic forms of belonging (i. e. social groups other than the family); 5. through their stylistic ties to excess and exaggeration (with some exceptions); 6. Through their refusal of the banalities of ordinary life and massification. The study of subcultures often consists of the study of symbolism attached to clothing, music a nd other visible affectations by members of subcultures, and also the ways in which these same symbols are interpreted by members of the dominant culture. We will write a custom essay sample on Youth Subcultures or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page According to Dick Hebdige, members of a subculture often signal their membership through a distinctive and symbolic use of style, which includes fashions, mannerisms, and argot. Subcultures can exist at all levels of organizations, highlighting the fact that there are multiple cultures or value combinations usually evident in any one organization that can complement but also compete with the overall organizational culture. In some cases, subcultures have been legislated against, and their activities regulated or curtailed Sexual subcultures The sexual revolution of the 1960s led to a countercultural rejection of the established sexual and gender norms, particularly in the urban areas of Europe, North and South America, Australia, and white South Africa. A more permissive social environment in these areas led to a proliferation of sexual subculturesââ¬âcultural expressions of non-normative sexuality. As with other subcultures, sexual subcultures adopted certain styles of fashion and gestures to distinguish them from the mainstream. Homosexuals expressed themselves through the gay culture, considered the largest sexual subculture of the 20th century. With the ever increasing acceptance of homosexuality in the early 21st century, including its expressions in fashion, music, and design, the gay culture can no longer be considered a subculture in many parts of the world, although some aspects of gay culture like leather men, bears, and feeders are considered subcultures within the gay movement itself. The butch and femme identities or roles among some lesbians also engender their own subculture with stereotypical attire, for instance drag kings. A late 1980s development, the queer movement can be considered a subculture broadly encompassing those that reject normatively in sexual behavior, and who celebrate visibility and activism. The wider movement coincided with growing academic interests in queer studies and queer theory. Aspects of sexual subcultures can vary along other cultural lines. For instance, in the United States, the term down-low is used to refer to African-American men who do not identify themselves with the gay or queer cultures, but who practice gay cruising, and adopt a specific hip-hop attire during this activity A youth subculture is a youth-based subculture with distinct styles, behaviors, and interests. Youth subcultures offer participants an identity outside of that ascribed by social institutions such as family, work, home and school. Youth subcultures that show a systematic hostility to the dominant culture are sometimes described as countercultures. Youth subcultures are often distinguished by elements such as fashion, beliefs, slang, dialects or behaviours. Vehicles ââ¬â such as cars, motorcycles, scooters or skateboards ââ¬â have played central roles in certain youth subcultures. In the United Kingdom in the 1960s, mods were associated with scooters while rockers were associated with motorcycles. Specific music genres are associated with many youth subcultures, such as punks, ravers, metalheads and goths. The study of subcultures often consists of the study of the symbolism attached to clothing, music, other visible affections by members of the subculture, and also the ways in which these same symbols are interpreted by members of the dominant culture. Socioeconomic class, gender, intelligence, conformity and ethnicity can be important in relation to youth subcultures. Youth subcultures can be defined as meaning systems, modes of expression or lifestyles developed by groups in subordinate structural positions in response to dominant systems ââ¬â and which reflect their attempt to solve structural contradictions rising from the wider societal context.
